Mets take 3-of-4 from Phillies

July 1, 2007

What a wonderful weekend this was. I had the great pleasure of seeing my Mets sweep a doubleheader at Shea Stadium South on Friday, and watched them clobber the Phillies 8-3 yesterday. So what if they didn’t get the series sweep? That was to be expected with rookie Mike Pelfrey pitching today, who is quite obviously not ready for the majors.

I must say, it was thoroughly satisfying to watch the Mets dominate each of the first three games after having to listen to Salary Cap and Mr. Fumbles run their mouths for three weeks about how the Phillies would be taking over first place this weekend. Upon a close investigation of the NL East standings – not only are the Mets still in first place, but the Phillies have fallen to third. I might be wrong, but third place does not seem like first place to me.

It got so bad that Mr. Fumbles and Salary Cap both left the doubleheader early on Friday. I suppose they were embarassed, which is to be expected when cheering for a professional sports franchise that has won just one World Championship in over 100 years of existence, a team that is closing in on becoming the first professional team EVER to lose 10,000 games.

What happened, guys? Could it be that your team just isn’t very good? I’m curious as to how much Salary Cap and Mr. Fumbles enjoyed this weekend. Perhaps they will enlighten us all soon.
